He is one of 3 kids I watch full-time. This is an awkward situation as I am related through marriage to his mom, but the baby's hair is NEVER brushed, he has VERY long and curly hair and it looks like a rats nest, it is dreadlocking from such lack of care. he is generally clean, and a mutual friend provided the mom with a knot free spray and the parents NEVER use it-his hair is gross and I have tried to hint to it and even said outright-You guys need to brush his hair daily and THEY NEVER DO. What should I do?

You're there full-time. Why not clean %26amp; brush the child's hair yourself?

Brush it for him while he's in your care. They also have detangling shampoo that'll help ease the knots. Conditioner is the best (and cheapest) detangler there is!

Brush it when you are watching him. What are they going to do, tell you not to? (maybe, but that would be silly, anyway) Maybe he gives them a hard time about it, and that's why they don't. Maybe you would have better luck doing it if that is the case.

Um... Since you're one of his caregivers, it's part of YOUR responsibility, too.
Brush it.
Start at the ends and work your way slowly up, as you work the tangles out.
If you can find an infant detangler-comb (one came with the brush I just bought), use it on his wet, conditioner-laden hair.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
As a child-care provider myself (in my own home, mind you, not theirs), I routinely brush hair, wash faces, and even give baths as needed.
ALL aspects of the child's well-being are your responsibility -- 100% -- while that child is in your care.
PERIOD.
If you don't like that simple, legal, fact, FIND A DIFFERENT JOB!!!
Or you could report them, as some have suggested and you seem to prefer, for child neglect. And get to explain to the authorities why -- as the person this child spends the most time with on weekdays (more than 12 hrs/day) YOU couldn't be bothered to pick up a hairbrush.
Oh, but that might make you look bad, and this is all about you feeling superior. Nevermind.

Because you nanny they may feel it is your responsibility.
We know it isn't but some people feel like eveything should be left to the main care giver (you).
Give him a bath daily, use quality shampoo, conditioner and detangler.
Make sure he his clean when they return ome, then tell tham how long it took you to do these things and how it took you away from your other responsibilities.
If this doesn't help, ask them if you can take him in for a hair cut.
Good luck. I know how hard it is to deal with ignorant self centered parents.

Report them-- the court will order they get the kid a hair cut

If you were actually concerned you'd brush it. Do you just sit there all day making sure that you don't provide any care beyond what you're paid. Why not just do it if it needs doing? Sheesh, if they paid you $10 less would you refuse to change his diaper?
You have 2 other options. You could cut it and deal with the ramifications, or you could just leave it alone and let it dreadlock and then don't let it bother you anymore. Perhaps his parents want him to look like a rasta.
