A quesation about ethics and laws in poltics...?

This is actually my answer to another ?, and I ask it in "politics" because want to see the opinions of users in this section, NOT cops in the law %26amp; ethics section.

A nobody from nowheresville USA gets caught with crack and gets a felony conviction, but overcomes %26amp; turns their life around and is a successful and productive citizen, but cannot get a job around kids, old folks, medicine, money, politicans, even at a hair salon, because they are restricted from holding a professonal license due to their felony convicton.

If you agree with this "sanction" then you condemn many wonderful Americans to a life of mediocracy, and feel someone who has used cocaine deserves these sanctions.

Is Obama any better for not getting convicted, yet admitting his use?

Do you feel Marion Barry should hold office?

Would you allow a "cleaned up" crackhead to babysit your children in your home?

Why is it different person to person or situaton to situation?

Congressmen have as many criminal convictions as the NFL! I guess this makes us third class citizens - behind the ruling class and the illegals.

There is a clear difference between personal use and addiction. A major difference.

And you can have DUI's and run for office ( an offense where you are literally taking everyone's elses life and saying ehh, I'd rather drive home and risk killing them than get a cab).

I have no issue with personal drug use in the past.

A quesation about ethics and laws in poltics...?

anyone with a brain can see drug laws are much more harmful than drugs themselves.

what did alcohol prohibition do for organized crime?

so what do you think drug prohibition is doing for organized crime?

drugs are harmful yes. drug abuse is a medical problem though, NOT a criminal one.

and yes it matters greatly from person to person, because... well... people are different! you cant just catagorize them into groups and treat them like diseased cattle.. which is basically what we do with them right now. brand and forget.

With Obama saying he did drugs, in essence he is saying: and look I didn閳ユ獩 become a drug addict. This is a very important message to everyone, because much of our economy is spent on this drug war at home in the US, while part of our tax dollars is funding the terrorists in the Middle East who supply them. I believe most people if drugs where legalized, wouldn閳ユ獩 enjoy feeling drugged out. Drugs are easier to get than clean drinking water in the Middle East, and they are not a population of drug addicts. Person to person the US has a much bigger drug problem.

To answer your question without the legality, it is not really an ethical or a matter of principals閳? it is more a matter of trust. Our society lacks belief and trust in itself by thinking everyone would become a drug addict if drugs where legalized, we are keeping progress and change in a very expensive and endless circle. Americans are condemning much of society to a mediocre life with the sanctions keeping drugs illegal.
