I was thinking about starting a "drive in" church. Would you attend?

I'm a univeral life church minister and I want to start a new church. I was thinking about how some people just don't want to get all cleaned up and dressed up and sometimes you can't get the kids going on Sunday morning. So, I came up with a "drive-in" church idea.

I would buy a big old parking lot to hold my ministry instead of a church with four walls. People could just pull up in the parking lot on Sunday morning. We'd broadcast the sermon over the FM and you could hear it on your car stereo. People would be able to just come as they are. Kids could sleep in the back seats and you wouldn't even have to comb their hair. You could bring all the food and beverages you wanted, even a little hot toddy if that's what get's you going in the mornings.

Think of how it would feel if you could just sit in the car in your pajamas, your hair sticking up everywhere, putting your feet up on the dash and listening to a Sunday morning sermon.

That's a slice of heaven!

I think in USA everything is possible. It is country of freedom.

Do not you feel it will be a bit stupid idea for such adult religion person like you?

That's kind of sick.

That being said, I'm collecting "online ordinations" myself. I'm going to decorate my living room with them.

Well, to me, this seems more about convenience than worship. Isn't church supposed to be about worshipping God? I understand about the whole idea, it's good, for maybe a town meeting. But for church? I know God doesn't want us to be vain, and worry about our appearance, but I think that he wants us to make an effort to be fully awake and conscious about why we are at church.

If I wasnt Wiccan sure I would. I wish my friends would too that way when they drag me to church trying to save my soul at least I wouldnt have to dress up for it :). Blessed be.

It has already been done.

The well known "Crystal Cathedral" in Garden Grove, CA started out as a drive-in church in a former drive-in theatre, with Rev. Schuller giving his sermons from on top of a concession stand.

For that matter, you can _still_ drive and park there if you want. They even have a big screen TV facing the parking lot for those drive-in worshippers.

I am thinking, hoping actually that you are not serious. I could stay home and watch any one of a number of preachers on television , in my pajamas with my hair sticking up eating sugar coated sugar bombs for that matter- why get in the car at all? An individual can read the Bible, hear good teaching, get a revelation anywhere at any time. The main purpose of church is to bring believers together to fellowship in His name- this is how we minister to each other, get ministered to, bear each others burdens, etc. Your idea gives little to no room for real fellowship which is vital for growth

That is the problem with Christians and a lot of 'Muslims' you think religion is a type of service for you. Just like going to a doctor, the fast food restraunt, the dry cleaners, the maid, etc. Service to make you feel good for a couple of hours then back to being miserable. Little do you understand that this life is temporary and you will be accountable for your actions. Little do you know that you are being watched not only on Sunday but everyday. Little do you realize that religion is an everyday thing where you struggle with yourself in doing good, whatever it maybe. A wonderful every minute struggle to gain attachement to your Creator and to ultimately be at peace and tranqulity.

Just a thought....

If folks didn't want to comb their hair and have face to face interaction with fellow Christians, why wouldn't they stay at home and watch a service on TV? They would have even more luxury at home and the kids could just stay in bed--or watch cartoons in the next room. Either way, I wish you well on your project.

To answer your question, no, I wouldn't attend. I would if my religion decided to do something like this because we don't have any local groves or TV programs.

Only if you project a montage of singing and dancing pizza, cups of cola, and popcorn before every sermon.

It would probably be most effective if you showed porn flicks on a screen while you preached. And, served beer.
