I am trying to find out what kind of dog I could have at my house. We have a daycare at home so the breed of the dogs would have to be kid friendly, small and also shed very little hair. Also where could I purchase this kind of dog?

I got myself a male Shih Tzu. He is amazing with a five year old. Our dog, Kosmo, is three years old and we got him from the county animal shelter. He was amazingly smart, easy to train and really laid back. We'd never had a problem with him going in the house, never noticed a problem with him shedding and is the most easy going dog I've ever seen.
Shih Tzu's were the first dog to be bred specifically for human companionship and they're excellent at their job. He is VERY friendly but not in your face. He offers his ball to anyone that visits, but doesn't jump up on them unless they beckon for him to do so.
He loves strangers and his owners, and we could not ask for a single better dog. I would bet money that this kind of dog would not let you down!

They are playful, loyal, very smart, alert, friendly and outgoing, no inherited diseases, very short haired with little shedding, sturdy (even the toys), learn to do tricks, easily obedience trained, great watch dogs. Other facts: they are instinctual hunters and will kill rabbits, rodents (you won't need a cat), squirrels, gophers, chinchillas, etc. For this reason, you can't have them around any pets of the this nature. Cats are okay with these dogs. They get along great with them.

AND there's more good news......There's also a hairless variety. Registered as American Hairless Terriers. Of course, they don't have any hair at all. You have to keep clothes on them all year around to protect their skin. In the summer, if they are naked, you have to use sunscreen. People with allergies can tolerate these little beauties. They are Rat Terriers that are hairless. They are now a breed of their own (AHT). They also come in a coated variety. Here's a website on them.

They are one of the most awesome breeds out there and are becoming more and more popular as people discover just what owning a Rat Terrier means. My Bichon frise loves kids. He doesn't shed at all (but does need to be clipped every 6 weeks). The grooming only takes about 5 minutes if you do it every day. They are not as delicate as mini poodles, but you do still need to be careful when they are puppies. They are easily stepped on and could be injured by over boisterous children.
